What Would You Do For a Healthier Life For Both Your Children and Yourself?

Monday, February 28th, 2011

Did you know that over one hundred thousand people die every year from health complications? What is odd about this figure is that it was the medication that killed them, not the illness, disease or even procedure. Our bodies are crying out for their thirst to be satiated but we decline to listen because it is not a primary concern of the medical profession.

This is alarming really, when we read that so many medicines are aids to assist the body to cope with the side effects of the primary prescribed medicine. We have to ask is it more important for pharmaceutical companies and the governing bodies to introduce new medicines for financial reasons not longevity of lives.

All of these figures add to the discourse on the availability for alternative medicines to be readily acceptable and given as a choice for patients rather than frowned upon. Most patients have to work outside of their health care professional’s knowledge if they want to go down the natural or holistic approach of treatment, which is quite pathetic really.

In his book ‘Water Cures Drugs Kill’, F. Batmanghelidj M.D talks about this simple solution and has induced a flood of awareness about the curative faculties of water. Curiously, God and then Jesus pursued the same line of healing but we have not been listening to God either, hmm!

We wonder why our children are having health problems and if we gave them 8 - 10 glasses of water with up to half teaspoon of salt in their daily diet we would see fewer children suffering hard to diagnose maladies, including babies. Yes, babies need water as well as their daily milk feedings and there is a guide available to measure how much each of us should drink depending on size and weight.

The Bible has views on both natural cures and medical cures, encouraging us to respect both avenues for healing as both may and should be complimentary not opponents. Unfortunately, as the giant pharmaceutical corporations have a vested interest in keeping us in the dark, so they may ply liberally their decided applications, for whatever their research department chooses when introducing the pill of the day, we are manacled.

Corporations are doing their absolute damnedest to curtail freedom in every sphere their tentacles manage to wriggle towards and control. Our finances are manipulated through economic booms and downfalls liberally, our educational system is absolutely not in the hands of the people and neither is our politics.

Yes there is lots of good news if, we assume control of every sphere in our domain, if we should so choose but it demands commitment and dedication. Education is in our hands through libraries and bookstores as well as online availability of outlets. Libraries have access to just about every book ever written or may be purchased from any corner of the world and all you need is an internet connection, computer and credit card.

Politics shall be regained if more of us became involved in local and county politics then the positives would make their way to the national level. We also could research the products we buy declining to purchase from companies where human rights issues require correction. In order for society to regain control we have to allow the appropriate perspective of each societal nuance and return to our faith primarily and then recognising family values and how work is the catalyst, so the family may be enjoyed not destroyed.

How much time do you devote to researching important purchases like clothes, shoes, cars or even your home? How much time do you dedicate towards expanding your attitude towards positive growth? Are you open-minded enough to allow the possibility of perusing the potential of alternatives?

Well now, the article title asked your consideration about what you would do for a healthier life and the only question seeking an answer now is this one. Would you drink 8 - 10 x 8oz. glasses of water and add up to one-half spoon of sea salt to your diet daily if it is proved that substantial benefits were achievable? That is all you have to do for starters then add a wee biteen of prayer, meditation and signs of gratitude and voila your life is on the way towards massive repair. God bless!

As technology advances at a rapid pace, we discover new knowledge nearly daily. If you want to free yourself of eye-glasses and contacts, eye laser surgery is almost certainly an alternative worthy of consideration.

How to Buy Reading Glasses for the First Time

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

Buying reading glasses for the first time can be daunting, especially if you have gone your entire life without needing any corrective eye wear. The truth is, having difficulties being able to see up-close objects, known as presbyopia, is a part of the aging process that can get in the way of everyday tasks - like reading a menu at a restaurant or sewing. This article will arm you with the knowledge you need to determine if you need reading glasses, as well as give instructions on how to purchase your first pair.

How to Tell if You Need Readers

*The first sign of presbyopia is often the need to hold reading material farther away than the standard 10 to 12 inches from your face. If you must hold a book at an arm’s length away to focus on the words, it is time for reading glasses. If you do not read often, it could be that you have difficulty seeing when drawing, playing board games, or sewing - or even seeing the food on your plate. *Besides difficulty seeing, tired eyes or headaches after focusing on an up-close activity are more signs that you need corrective eyewear. *If you experience these symptoms, confirm that you need corrective eyewear by visiting the optometrist. They will administer tests to determine your prescription.

How to Buy Reading Glasses

Once you determine you need readers, you have several options for buying them. Your options include purchasing over the counter from the store, or purchasing custom-made glasses from the optometrist. Your lifestyle and budget will determine the right choice for you, but use the following tips to assist in your decision.

Purchasing readers over the counter

You can buy reading glasses from pharmacies, department stores, discount stores, or even online. This is the easiest and most inexpensive way to purchase them. The downfall of OTC glasses is that picking out the right prescription could become a guessing game. You will have to try on different pairs until you find the best lens power for your vision.

Purchasing reading glasses from your eye doctor

This option will cost you more money, as you will have to pay for your appointment and custom-made glasses will cost significantly more than OTC. However, the positive is that you will be sure you are wearing the correct prescription. If your eyes require two different lens powers, your custom glasses will cater to this - a feature not available OTC. Furthermore, you will be able to purchase half lenses. These have two different prescriptions within one lens - usually the top half of the lens is for distance vision, and the bottom half for up-close vision.

In less than a half-hour, you can have great eyesight thanks to advanced laser eye surgery techniques. Myopia is one of the easiest eye problems to correct with eye laser surgery and takes less than 30 minutes.

How to Cure Your Body of Bad Habbits

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

Rich or poor, famous or not, successful or mediocre, addict or not makes no difference beyond one relevant element. Yes, we are all human and as such all have one thing in common but we choose to use this denominator to mostly destroy and insult but rarely compliment.

What is it about humans that we love ambitious dreams and strive to attain the best of everything but diminish one thing in the process? Walk along any street in any town, gaze at the countenance visible on most people, and recognise this one thing most have in common. What is it you may ask?

Every major city has its fair share of wannabes in every circle of endevour but most quit a tad too soon because they forgot this one thing. Maybe they did not forget it, maybe they were oblivious to its value or and power, whichever is the case, they quit.

Every day thousands around the globe strive to quit addictions but less than seven percent succeed, some drag along between quitting and indulging promising to do better the next time. Others die or languish in lives that fluctuate in and out of medical centres for years. Our population knows all about statistics because less than four percent attain true financial success, less then fifty percent attain loving success in exquisite relationships. Why?

You see success is equal in all things but the rewards are in exact proportion to the presence of this one element and without it, no one person will ever attain harmony. What is harmony but an equal distribution and balancing of all aspects of ones life to the blessings of the entire picture where nothing suffers?

Sounds like utopia, perhaps it does, but there is no mention anywhere that we cannot enjoy some form of utopia in this life. We are the masters of our world and only we may choose the outcome if and when we become active participants towards a delightful outcome. Remember the words of Jesus though when arriving at decisions, ‘what is the point of gaining the world if we lose our souls?’ With this in mind let us be masters of harmony rather than monsters of destruction doing our utmost to avoid that, which may reverse direction.

Therefore, if harmony is our desire what is the magic ingredient that assures its ascension in our lives in plentiful supply? How may we attain this particular ingredient? How may we benefit from its mystical powers to experience the joys of life and feel satiated? Do we have the commitment level to ensure success by diligently applying relevant perseverance levels with faith and action towards a successful conclusion?

Have you guessed yet the unique attribute we all share in equal proportions but not equal results? It is this one little word with a humongous meaning; A - T - T - I - T - U - D - E. Yes, attitude is the deciding factor to whether you succeed or in fact, we succeed in both seeking harmony and quietening the attraction of addictions. Addictions are not always substance abuse but also apply to the dominant areas of focus in our lives. To seek the relevant equilibrium demands appropriate attitude and we attain it through meditation, prayer and self-love.

As attitude is the powerful ingredient, know this for certain, that by availing of its powers we open windows of knowledge that present the faculties we desire. Success without health is not harmony, neither is success without family or friends! The correct attitude allows perception to grow inviting discernment of knowledge applying all that is relevant to the goals we desire in abundance and harmony. Without this, we merely exist.

‘If a man were to buy love with all the wealth of his house, contempt is all he would purchase.’ Song of Songs 8:7. GOD Bless!

Talk with your friends and you will likely learn many trends. If eye glasses aren’t your style and contact lenses are too frustrating: have a close look at laser eye surgery.

Effective Meditation That Will Improve All Areas Of Your Life

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

Buddhism is known for its lists. Among those lists is the list of the seven factors of enlightenment which include: mindfulness, effort and energy, investigation, rapture, concentration, tranquility, and equanimity. These are qualities of the mind that, when cultivated in meditation practice, can profoundly affect your relationship with the world.

1. “Mindfulness is simply being aware of what is happening right now without wishing it was different; enjoying the pleasant without holding on when it changes (which it will) and being with the unpleasant without fearing it will always be this way (which it won’t).” James Baraz Mindfulness (sati) means to be aware and mindful in all activities and movements both physical and mental.

2. Investigation (dhamma vicaya) into the nature of dhamma, the teaching of the Buddha. It means being Interested and curious about our experience, being introspective about the nature of our actions, our speech and our thoughts.

3. Energy (viriya) is energy in pursuit of the good, This the the physical and mental energy needed for diligent mindfulness practice. Viriya is the strong, courageous heart of energy.

4. Joy or rapture (piti) is a gladdening of the mind and body, a feeling in the body when in deep meditation.

5. Relaxation or tranquility (passaddhi) is the tranquility of both the body and mind, mental and physical calm.

6. Concentration (samadhi) is a calm, one-pointed state of concentration of mind, a deep state of meditation.

7. Equanimity (upekkha),is being able to face life in all its vicissitudes with a calm and tranquil mind, without disturbance.

Each of these factors can be used as the focus of meditation. You could choose one factor of enlightenment to work with, in your meditation, for several weeks or for as long as you would like. After you have meditated for enough time to become concentrated, bring the factor to mind and explore it. Is this factor strong or week? How can you develop this factor in your life?

For example, when meditating on equanimity, you might consider whether this is a quality that you or someone you know embodies. What characteristics of that person are manifested due to this quality of equanimity? In which situations have you witnessed this quality? In which situations in your own life has there been a lack of equanimity? How can you manifest equanimity in your life?

According to Sri S. Satchidananda (The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali: Commentary on the Raja Yoga Sutras by Sri Swami Satchidananda) “When even one virtue becomes our nature, the mind becomes clear and tranquil. Then there is no need to practice meditation; we will automatically be meditating always.”

This meditation technique, when practiced over time, will bring awareness and positivity to your thoughts, speech and actions.

Holistic Treatment for High Blood Pressure - Proven Remedies for Hypertension

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

Most people treat it as a mere symptom or a condition, but unknown to them, a mere symptom or condition can pave the way for serious conditions, ranging from heart ailments to kidney failures. At times, it can even lead to a heart attack, and the person still would not know what caused it.

A trip to the doctor, such as undergoing a routine general check-up annually may help prevent this situation. However, what if the doctor tells us we are hypertensive? Normally, medications are prescribed, which can be quite costly since we will be taking this for a certain period. Thus, we might consider pursuing a holistic treatment for high blood pressure, meaning, we should consider the body in its entirety in tending to this illness.

Though it cannot totally cure a person of his hypertension, pursuing this kind of treatment will help control high systolic pressure, and at the same time reduce the probability of taking medications for a very long period of time. Again, this holistic treatment for high blood pressure only serves to supplement, meaning, the doctor’s order is still very important.

Obesity is one of the factors which lead to hypertension. This would mean pursuing an exercise regimen or performing daily workouts, coupled with a balanced diet to tone down that body weight. It is also recommended that the diet be concentrated more on vegetables and foods rich in fiber, as statistics show that only a handful of vegetarians suffer high blood pressure. Naturally, people should likewise start toning down on eating fatty foods or even cut their alcohol-drinking and smoking habits. Even with a good diet and daily exercise regimen, if we do not do our part in cutting down the factors which contribute to hypertension, then the efforts would be put to naught.

We can also consider practicing meditation or yoga, or even just get a health massage in order tone down and relax those muscles so our body would feel at rest and we can get a good night’s sleep. Others even resort to acupuncture to relieve those tense muscles. In this manner, stress, which is one of the factors which contribute to high blood pressure, is greatly reduced to a significant degree. In the end, a healthy lifestyle is what can prevent us from experiencing hypertension symptoms.

Get rid of the distress of wearing contact lenses with a a single time laser eye surgery that takes just minutes. Many individuals, even those with very bad vision have been able to get high visual acuity from eye laser surgery.

Dealing With Hypertension And High Blood Pressure

Saturday, February 26th, 2011

Middle-aged men and women often tend to put on a lot of weight as they become more lethargic and do not exercise as regularly. Unlike during the younger days, our bodies may not respond to all the stress and strain. The metabolic system may not be strong enough to handle all the problems caused by us.

Since our metabolism slows down with age and our workload becomes comparatively less burdensome, the extra calories start to accumulate around the waist and thigh areas. But this situation can be avoided if we pay more attention and exercise regularly while maintaining a healthy diet regime. If we neglect our body, there is every possibility that we may develop the dreaded condition known as hypertension or blood pressure.

If blood pressure is not treated with a lot of care, you might become a chronic patient who will have to remain on medication for the rest of your life. There are many people who do not mind taking pills regularly to combat hypertension but for those who do not like taking tablets regularly and looking for a way out of this condition, I have listed a few points to counter this disease.

The first step in the right direction is to bring down your weight to the appropriate level. A dietitian or your GP can explain what this means. Most of your actions should be health based and result in making you healthy. Hence it becomes essential for overweight or fat people to exercise more regularly, and this is the best method of reducing the blood pressure.

If you happen to be a person who does not physically exert yourself, you should try walking. It is a great form of exercise and if you can walk for thirty minutes, twice a day, you will realize and experience the immense pleasure and relief. Apart from helping you lose weight, your blood pressure will be brought down and your internal organs will be nicely massaged. Swimming regularly has similar effects and can be as effective. Reducing salt intake is a very effective method of losing weight.

But salt is essential to human body and hence you may seek the advice of a dietitian in this regard. Regular consumption of excess salt can be altered by using herbs and spices instead. Some other factors that may escalate your blood pressure are smoking and drinking excessively.

You need to give up these potentially dangerous habits in order to bring down your blood pressure. Any or all of the above mentioned points will certainly help you bring down your blood pressure.

But if you are a chronic blood pressure patient or suffering from very high blood pressure, you may need to combine all the above mentioned points after consulting your doctor.

Get rid of the discomfort of wearing contact lenses with a one time laser eye surgery that takes just minutes. Myopia is one of the simplest eye problems to correct with eye laser surgery and takes less than thirty minutes.

The Difference Between Men’s and Women’s Sunglasses

Friday, February 25th, 2011

Sunglasses are important essentials in both men’s and women’s everyday wear. True, it can be difficult these days to guess which sunglasses are for men and which are for women because they all look alike. But if you look closely at eye accessories, there’s no disputing that women’s sunglasses are definitely sexier and tend to be more colorful.

Men’s Sunglasses

Without a doubt, men’s sunglasses tend to make a bolder statement. You got it right; the macho image rules. Take a look at aviator glasses and the men in black who popularized the bold look and feel of this style. But trends do change; men are now starting to wear smaller sunglasses like Lennon specs, but the look is still masculine. For really young men, the gangster look is in-style because it’s menacing yet oozing with sex appeal.

Men’s sunglasses usually have dark lenses, many of which are either perfectly round, square-shaped, or straight at the top. They also tend to feature frames that are dark in color, with wider arms. Men are a wee bit conservative when it comes to color frames. Rock stars strut in white-framed sunglasses embellished with semi-precious stones. The weirder their sunglasses, the better to boost their ratings in talk shows and gossip columns. But for the average Joe, simple and more conservative styles are usually preferred.

Women’s Sunglasses

Women have an edge over men when it comes to the sheer variety of sunglasses from which they can choose. Simply put, women are usually more willing to go out on a limb with regards to their sunglasses and try more flamboyant, cutting-edge styles. Women, from all walks of life, can essentially flirt with their sunglasses!

Women can either go for the sexy, prissy or sweet look, or they can take a further step by wearing more masculine-looking sunglasses. For true girly-girls, you can find sunglasses with frames featuring pretty much every color of the rainbow. Herein lies the big difference between men’s and women’s sunglasses. It’s about the wearer’s taste. To solve the impasse, there are unisex sunglasses, but still, women get the most advantage from the unisex styles.

Women can get away with pink, lilac, and red frames. They can go for leopard spots just as easily as silver or plain stainless steel frames. Women’s sunglasses are basically smaller and lighter than men’s sunglasses but with the same UV protection levels, depending on the brand and type of sunglasses used.

How to Shop for Sunglasses

A good fit is important. If you are going to wear your sunglasses for long hours outdoors, or while engaging in physical activity, you have to choose a model that provides a comfortable fit. Also, make sure your sunglasses actually protect your eyes from the harmful UV rays of the sun. Go for sunglasses with lenses featuring UVA and UVB protection (particularly UV400 Protection, which is the best protection for your eyes). Lastly, consider the shape of your face. This is the crucial factor that will either make or break you in terms of how cool you look while wearing your sunglasses.

As technology advances at a swift rate, we discover new insight nearly daily. If you need to be free of eye glasses and disposable lenses, laser eye surgery is surely an option worthy of consideration.

Friday, February 25th, 2011

Men are predisposed to a number of prostate problems, especially those men above 50 years age. The role of the prostate is the production of seminal fluid. It a small walnut-shaped gland located right below the bladder of a male. The gland grows once the person reaches puberty and it continues to grow. The enlargement does not become an issue till 40 years of age or above. The symptoms of prostate disorder include:

* Frequent urination, mainly at night * Burning sensation while urinating * Pain while ejaculating * Pain behind scrotum

Simple Home Remedies

* Pumpkin seeds: German doctors have used pumpkin seeds to successfully treat BPH and other non cancerous prostate disorder. The pumpkin seeds are rich in zinc and have diuretic properties. Taking Probiotics During Pregnancy - Is It Safe And Is It Healthy?

Friday, February 25th, 2011

There is a growing movement towards the use of probiotics products, with growing evidence of the health benefits of maintaining that healthy balance of your intestinal flora. But is it safe to take probiotics in pregnancy, and even if it’s safe is there any good reason to do so?

Everyone has bacteria in their digestive system, and estimates are that there are anywhere up to 500 or more different strains of bacteria in your gut. In fact there is billions of the little critters living there right now. And those little bugs coexist with you quite peacefully, and in fact evidence is that if you’ve got the right bugs in your system they will help keep your system well regulated and healthy.

But upset the balance of bugs in your system, for example by eating something contaminated with nasty bugs, or taking some antibiotics, and you may well begin to feel less than healthy. Diarrhoea is a common symptom.

Probiotics are products containing various strains of friendly bacteria which, when taken either by eating or drinking, should help re-establish the healthy balance of bacteria in your intestinal system and therefore re-establish your health. And there is significant scientific evidence that using probiotics products can help improve various unpleasant conditions. But what about taking probiotics during pregnancy? Is it safe to take probiotics in pregnancy or should it be avoided?

There is little evidence of any serious medical side effects to taking probiotics, either for pregnant women or for anybody else. Occasionally perhaps a mild and temporary dose of gas or stomach upset, but little worse than that. However the mere fact that you will not get sick from taking probiotics is not a sufficient reason to take them, either during pregnancy or any other time.

However there is evidence that there are positive health benefits for women to take a probiotics supplement during pregnancy. For example a study in Finland has established that the use of probiotics in pregnancy can help reduce the risks of a serious form of obesity called adiposity, reduce the risk of diabetes and even reduced risk for the baby of obesity later in life. And there are other benefits in helping maintain a healthy balance of your intestinal flora, and in particular at reducing diarrhoea.

Like everything it is always important to consult your doctor before any significant dietary change, however the risks to your health of introducing probiotics to your diet in pregnancy are extremely limited, and it would seem that there are positive health benefits from doing so.

It is important however to remember that the strains of bacteria in probiotic products are not regulated by the FDA, and for this reason anyone considering taking them should only be taking well-recognised high quality probiotics supplements, and avoid some of the more esoteric brands, the risks and benefits of which are unknown.

To find out more about how to identify high quality probiotics products visit my website.

Talk with your friends and you’ll likely come across many trends. Clearly eye laser surgery is worth a visit for anyone who is enthusiastic about a permanent answer to vision correction.

To Control High Blood Pressure, Look Really Close at What You Are Eating

Friday, February 25th, 2011

Here’s the good news first - the average blood pressure level in people around the world has fallen. As good as it is to hear that, there still are some holdouts who find it hard to take control of their blood pressure problems. One of the most important things you can do to control high blood pressure that seems impervious to all your well-intentioned attempts would be to deal with the salt in your food.

For a healthy blood pressure count, you need to make sure that there are no more than 1.5 teaspoons of salt in your diet a day. In America, we end up taking in almost 2 teaspoons of salt a day. If you’re hastily mentally totaling up all the salt that you sprinkle over your food and spoon into the bubbling pot on the stove everyday, you would be surprised to know that that isn’t where you make your mistake. Three-quarters of the salt we eat every day comes from other places. What other places? They’re pretty well hidden.

Let’s start with a product that really is innocuous as far as its effects on your blood pressure go - it’s Kellogg’s raisin bran. They advertise on the box that a serving of Raisin Bran gives you no more than 15% of your daily dietary allowance. While that sounds pretty modest, that’s twice as much as almost every other cereal- Cheerios, Special K Protein Plus or anything else. How about that nutritious snack that you would prefer your child chose over junk food - beef jerky? Even the mild variety has a full 500mg to a serving - probably not the healthiest snack ever at twice the salt content of even a serving of potato chips. You eat a little bit of this, and you’ll get a fifth of your daily recommended 1.5 teaspoon allowance of salt.

Certainly, your efforts trying to control high blood pressure can’t have anything to do with your hankering for pancakes, now could it? Take a package of Kellogg’s Eggo pancakes (perhaps they wouldn’t sell as well if they called them Ego pancakes). Delicious as these are, would you believe that you get a whopping 500mg of sodium to the package? It’s a full quarter of your daily allowance of salt. The syrup that comes with the package is even more salty goodness. But that is nothing compared to what looks like an otherwise very healthy snack - a vegetarian burger by MorningStar Farms. Here, you are buying one of these in the hope that you’re doing the right thing for your health staying away from beef patties in your burgers. That would be a reasonable assumption - except for the fact that some of these have whopping amounts of salt - a full third per burger of your allowance. If you go low-salt, you aren’t safe comforting yourself with gobs of ketchup either. Most major brands of ketchup are so heavily laced with salt that you would get about 100mg off just 1 tablespoon of the stuff.

Any attempt to control high blood pressure starts with the processed foods you buy. That’s where most of the salty action is.

Our eyes come in all shapes , sizes , and colors. A proper diet will help you to preserve optimal vision. Without doubt laser eye surgery may be worth a visit if you find yourself thinking about a permanent answer to vision correction.
